SUMMER LETTER MASTERWORKS CHORALE 2010 – 2011
I'm back and gearing up for the fall. It's was a very weird year sans music. I think I did every thing under the sun BUT music!! Lots of travel – lots of construction. Despite the fact that I couldn't attend any performances, trust that I knew exactly what was happening when and where – I was certainly with you in spirit. And once again, may I say that we all were hugely fortunate to have Dan step in and take over. Dan, we applaud your musicianship and expertise. Thank you!
For the Christmas concert we are bringing back an old favorite: the Rutter Gloria, complete with organ, brass and percussion ensemble. The first and third movements thrill with awe inspiring fanfares and lots of rhythmic intensity. The middle movement is gentle, quiet and introspective. I can't wait to hear it at St Mary's! Of course, the concert will be rounded out with Christmas anthems and carol singing.
In March we will sing two mini masterpieces: Handel's Dixit Dominus and the Vivaldi
Gloria. Some of you are probably already saying, "I sang the Vivaldi years ago!"
And I wouldn't be surprised. It's a lovely, popular piece. The Dixit has a few more
challenging twists and turns without being difficult or daunting. You won't find
yourself struggling with note learning. These masterpieces are very accessible, user-
Both works require a rather small orchestra. However there will be 5 professional vocal soloists. We have not yet decided on a venue. As soon as the site is approved, we will spread the word.
The fundraiser? Same place, same time of May. BUT do we need a new concept? Shall
we revamp/reinvent/find a new recipe? I (we) are open to new ideas or new structure.
Please, please send us your thoughts. There are two things that I believe should
remain consistent: 1) Silent Auction 2) Sit-
Obviously the Dinner Committee will have final say...it's a democracy and neither
Dan nor I can (or want to) "dictate" the lay of the land. Our strength draws from
our collective approach. Perhaps I'm the only one who is thinking we might consider
a new face on this project! My email is msmo@windstream.net – or give me a call from
mid August forward, 315-
If there are no "revamp" responses, I'll happily hop on board and serve up my best efforts. No matter what, I'll be thrilled to see – and hear you all!
See you soon,
